My 2000 Dodge Durango's check engine light is on and it is idling really high and shutting off.?
The light came on about a couple of days ago and I took it to Advance Auto so they could check the code. It came back saying the injectors were clogged. So I bought the stuff the guy recommended and put it in the gas tank. Now the truck is jerking and idling really high. When I come to a complete stop, the truck will die without any dashboard lights coming on. At this same time I was not getting any heat and the temp gauge would rise to the red and it would start to overheat. I asked the guy at Advanced and he put stop leak in the reserve tank. I am still having problems. I cannot run the air because the temp gauge rises and the heater is blowing out cold air when I have it set to hot. I have to keep my left foot on the brake while I am at a complete stop. Could anyone help me or lead me in the right direction? I don't want to have to spends fortunes for someone to fix it and then have to turn around and take it back. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Did the obd code come back as 'clogged' or did it come back as a misfire. A misfire may not be related to the injectors, but would CERTAINLY cause the symptoms you refer to.
Stop leak and injector cleaner will not solve the problems you describe. In fact, the guy at Advance Auto should be fired for impersonating a parts counterperson.
The high idle sounds more to me like a vacuum leak or at worst a manifold air pressure sensor gone bad.
Your overheating would then be due to the engine running lean (high amounts of air to a lower ratio of fuel), and a misfire reading on the OBD-2 system would confirm this. Have a trusted mechanic check the throttle body or air intake for a disconnected hose that leads to a small sensor located on the center of the bulkhead, behind the engine and directly over the transmission hump.
