Electrical issues 1986 F-150 truck, halfway resolved?
I recently put a battery in backwards in my Ford F-150 300 I-6. It fried the solenoid, I replaced the solenoid and it did not run or do anything. After that I took out the fusible links to do a temporary fix with fusible link wire and a heat shrink wrap butt connector. I turned on the truck and it started up, yet the engine was running way too high and I turned off the key. Well, it dieseled badly... wouldn't turn off. so I disconnected the battery. I removed one of the fusible link lines from the solenoid, which there were teo, a 16 gauge and an 18 gauge. I removed the 18 gauge and it ran a little better, I tried to see if it would drive, so I put it in reverse which it did, yet when I put it back into drive it seemed non responsive. so I shut it off and put it into nuetral and pushed it back into the parking spot.. what the heck is going on?

It is possible that the ECM (engine control module) or the ICM (ignition control module) could be fried!
NOTE: Reversed polarity and voltage spikes are things that solid state modules do not like!
