change smart car oil?
I went to the company to get my smart car oil changed, and they want to change my over 150$. So the website smartune has the whole kit to change the oil including oil filter and o-ring. but i was wondering before i try it my own, if there's anyone that changes it. I know that auto parts doesnt sell filters, and the penzoil(?) oil changes cant do it.
The 2008 451 Smart Car (North American) does have a drain plug, (The earlier version, not U.S. Spec, did not have a drain plug.) The filter is available from the dealer. It is probably not available at the local parts house or oil change shop. I called the Smart dealer where I picked up my Smart Passion, they mailed me a couple of filters. The whole process took a a about 4 days to my front door. The car uses snythetic, MB specs equal Mobile 1. The drain plug and filter are very easy to get to, no need to even jack up the car. I am sure you can get a local shop to change the oil for you and you just provide the filter. Check the owners service schedule, since the oil is snythetic, the interval is a lot greater than the 3000 mile norm. We have a CLS500 MB, it takes 8 quarts of Mobile 1 and a special filter, the interval is 13,000 miles and at the dealer it is $108.00. I just passed thru 2000 miles on my Smart, I am very satisfied with the car, I got 45 MPG on the last fill-up, normally around town I get 40 MPG plus or minus, a mile or so..
