Questions on Ring Compressor Set
How do you diagnose an a.c. system on a 2001 Ford Escort.?
Last year my a.c. showed a few signs of having problems.Sometimes it would work fine and sometimes it would take a little while before it would come on.I guessed it must be getting low of refrigerant.This year it has,nt worked at all.Tried to put some refrigerant in but it would,nt accept it.I have,nt put a real set of gages on it but I will when I get some connectors to go from my regular gages to the 134 fittings on the car.The clutch is not engaging but I,m wondering if the pressure is to low to activate a pressure switch to make it engage.Does that sound right or does it not work that way?If it does work that way then how do I check to see if the pressure switches are working?Lastly how do you determine if the compressor is bad?Thanks for any help you can give as I am trying to save myself a little money by doing as much as I can by myself.I f the compressor turns out to be bad I would like to change it and the filter dryer, o rings etc.Any info at all is appreciated.
Locate your low pressure line. On it you will find a low pressure solenoid that will stop the compressor if the refrigerant pressure falls too low. Remove the 2 prong electrical connector and jump it with a paper clip. does the compressor come on with the ac on in the car. You MIGHT have a leak in the system. You will need to locate the leak, repair it, evacuate the system and recharge. Another possibility is a faulty compressor itself. Get your 134a adapters, you're going to need those readings to determine what is actually causing the issue.
