Questions on Hydraulic Valve Lifter
Ticking tappet.?
My car has hydraulic valve lifters, it has four valves per cylinder. The valve lifters on No 1 cylinder make a ticking sound but not all the time. What could be causing this and how do I cure it?
P.S. The engine is a Vauxhall twin cam 1.6 16v Ecotec
The car is a 1999 Vauxhall Corsa 1.6 16v Sport. UK model.
It's possible that a small speck of dirt is clogging up a lifter...an old timer trick back in the hot rod days was to put some (no more than 1/2 qt) automatic transmission fluid in the motor. ATF will expand with heat and might be just enough to get that sticky lifter working again. Don't forget to change the oil shortly after doing this tho
